We have a dog in our house - what to do?

A dog lives in our house.
Recently when I became a devotee, I found out that dog is a dirty animal, and it should be kept out, but still we go on taking care of it.
The point is the dog licks my feet.
It seems to me that there is something wrong with it.
Please, could you explain what is wrong with it and what to do?
If he only licks your feet then it it is not so bad. You can maybe wash his mouth after. and the main thing is don't take him in the temple room.
